Frequently asked questions
Should I choose a day or overnight train?
High-speed G trains run during the day and are the fastest option. Conventional overnight sleeper trains also serve this corridor and can save a hotel night, though journey time is significantly longer—around 14–18 hours.
How early should I arrive at the station?
Plan to reach the station 45–60 minutes before departure. Foreign passport holders need to go through security and, in some stations, a separate ID verification window before entering the platform area.
Is there a dining car on these trains?
Yes. Long-distance G trains typically have a dining car serving hot meals, snacks, and drinks. Prices are higher than outside the station. Many travellers bring their own food.
What is Guangzhou South station like?
Guangzhou South (Guangzhounan) is a large hub station southwest of the city centre. It is connected to Guangzhou metro line 2 and line 7. Allow 40–60 minutes to reach most central hotels by metro.
Can I continue to Hong Kong from Guangzhou?
Yes. Guangzhou South has direct cross-border high-speed trains to Hong Kong West Kowloon, with journey times of about 48 minutes. Alternatively, Guangzhou East station serves intercity rail to Hung Hom in Kowloon.
