Frequently asked questions

Which Chongqing station should I use?

Most high-speed G and D trains arrive at Chongqing North (Chongqingbei), which is connected to metro lines 1 and 10. Chongqing West serves some additional routes. For most visitors staying in the Jiefangbei or Jiangbei areas, Chongqing North is the most convenient.

Which Chengdu station should I depart from?

Chengdu East (Chengdudong) handles the majority of high-speed trains on this corridor and is on metro line 2 and 7. Chengdu South and the newer Chengdu Tianfu station also serve some intercity services—double-check when booking.

Can I do Chengdu and Chongqing as a combined trip?

Yes, this is very popular. Fly into one city, take the train between them, and fly out from the other. Both cities have international airports and full-day itineraries worth exploring independently.

Is this route popular with Chinese domestic travellers?

Extremely. Chengdu and Chongqing are two of China's largest cities and this corridor sees enormous traffic, especially on weekends and public holidays. Booking ahead is advisable at those times.

What is the difference between G and D trains on this route?

G trains are high-speed and typically complete the journey in about 1h 10m. D trains are slightly slower at about 1h 40m but cost a little less. For such a short trip, the difference in journey time matters more than price—most travellers prefer the G train.
